The 2023 Mid-Season Invitational will be held on English soil. According to a report from Esports News UK, the country’s capital London has the honor of hosting the international League of Legends tournament. The site notes that, while no final decision has been made, several sources suggest the event could take place in Wembley stadium.

It would be the first time since 2018 that MSI is held within the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region with an audience able to attend. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Riot Games hosted the Mid-Season Invitational in Reykjavik, Iceland, without any fans in the venue. In 2022, the tournament took place in Busan, South Korea, and crowned LPL team Royal Never Give Up as its champion.

New MSI format

Though virtually everything about MSI 2023 is uncertain and unknown at the moment, one thing is sure: it will have a different format from previous iterations. During a press conference at the 2022 League of Legends World Championship, Riot Games confirmed that both MSI and Worlds will have different formats in 2023.

This announcement made more sense just a few weeks later, when Riot shared that the Russian league (LCL) and Turkish league (TCL) would be integrated into the EMEA region. Both regions are becoming an ERL (EMEA Regional League) and are losing their spots in international competitions.
