G2 Esports is making more steps in preparation for the LEC’s 2023 season. Bot laner Victor “Flakked” Lirola has announced that he’ll be looking for a team to represent.
On Twitter, the Spaniard writes, “I’m still under contract with G2 Esports but I’ve been allowed to explore my options for 2023.” Flakked’s contract with G2 lasts until Nov. 2024. If another team is interested in picking up Flakked, they might have to pay a buyout sum to acquire him.
“It was an amazing year where I had the chance to learn from the best teammates ever,” Flakked continued in his announcement, joking that jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski was not among the peers he learned from. Over the course of 2022, the two players bonded on the lineup with Jankos taking on the role of mentor.
From being doubted to winning the LEC
Flakked joined G2 for the 2022 season after spending two years in the Spanish league representing MAD Lions Madrid. His signing was met with a lot of criticism, but over the course of the Spring Split Flakked chipped away at the doubters. Through G2’s impressive lower bracket run in the LEC Spring Split playoffs, which resulted in the team winning the title, and an impressive initial showing at the Mid-Season Invitational in South Korea, the bot laner proved to be a fitting puzzle piece on the lineup.
G2 was on course to win the LEC Summer Split as well, but Rogue crushed their dreams of a back-to-back title. At the 2022 League of Legends World Championship in the United States, G2 only got one win in the Group Stage. They dropped from the tournament in shared last place in Group B.
Flakked isn’t the only player G2 is booting from the team. Long-time veteran Jankos is also looking for a new home for the 2023 season. G2 hasn’t announced which players will replace the two, but according to offseason reporter Brieuc Seeger, Steven “Hans sama” Liv will be G2’s new bot laner.
