Excel Esports announced its LEC roster a few weeks ago, but the organization had one more change to announce before the new LEC season kicked off. Tim Reichert has assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer and leads the organization going forward. He follows in the footsteps of Wouter Sleijffers, Excel’s CEO since Oct. 2019.
Reichert’s rise within the organization has been quick. The German joined Excel in Oct. 2021 as Esports Director after leading Schalke 04’s esports division for multiple years. In Apr. 2022, Reichert became the company’s Chief Operating Officer. Eight months after his last promotion and just fourteen months after joining Excel, Reichert leads the organization.
“I am thrilled to continue my journey with XL as CEO and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead such a talented team. We have worked hard to get to where we are but our ambitions are even bigger,” Reichert commented on Twitter. “I know that the road ahead will not be easy given the challenges facing our industry but I am confident that with our team’s hard work, dedication, and different thinking, we will identify the huge opportunities and come out even stronger. Here’s to an amazing future!”
Under Reichert’s leadership, Excel managed to reach the LEC playoffs for the first time in the organization’s history: Excel finished the 2022 LEC Spring Split in sixth place. The team reached the subsequent Summer Split playoffs as well, but could not get further than sixth place again. The organization has changed four players ahead of the 2023 in hopes to progress further.
