Excel Esports has made another acquisition in the offseason, just over one week before the LEC’s 2023 Winter Split kicks off. The British organization has added mid laner Felix “Abbedagge” Braun to the roster as a substitute.
According to the Global Contract Database, Abbedagge has signed with Excel until Apr. 30th of this year. This means that, for now, the mid laner is a backup for Excel during the LEC Winter Split and the Spring Split before becoming a free agent again. Excel’s starting mid laner, Vincent “Vetheo” Berrié, is signed with the team until Nov. 2024.
With the signing, Abbedagge returns to an LEC team after three splits in the LCS. In the break between the 2021 LEC Spring Split and Summer Split, Schalke 04 Esports sold Abbedagge to 100 Thieves. He found immediate success: 100 Thieves won the 2021 LCS Summer Split and went to the world championship as North America’s first seed. In 2022, Abbedagge helped his team to two LCS finals, but the team did not lift the trophy again.
Excel Esports’ LEC adventure starts on Saturday, Jan. 21st, when the team takes on G2 Esports.
